Description
We are seeking a Mechanical Project Manager/Engineer to join our team. This position involves engineering oversite, estimating, and project management of municipal & industrial wastewater & water treatment construction projects utilizing various project delivery methods while upholding Staab core values and meeting customer expectations. Applicant shall, over time, possess key skills overseeing projects, coordinating employees, subcontractors, and overall success of project(s) along with professional representation of Staab Construction.

Essential Duties, Responsibilities, Functions

Estimating

  • Hard bid (Plan & Spec) estimate process mechanical construction and at times other divisions of work.
  • Conceptually (GMP) estimate process mechanical construction with potentially minimal information and at times other divisions of work.
  • Meet with owners & engineers collaborating on project inception, preparing project proposals & interviews.
  • Accurately interpretate project plans, specifications, & other contract documents.
  • Establish project budget.
  • Change order estimation.
  • Conduct and present to owner value engineering ideas and cost savings.
  • Assists in maintaining cost history data base and estimating software programs related to Access, Trimble Accubid, & Hard Dollar.
  • Assist in analyzing, resolving, & reporting on cost history code variances.
  • Final project wrapup of cost incurred and installed quantities.
  • Find new and retain old customers.

Project Management

  • Execute projects of various size & complexity from setup to closeout ranging from $5000 to $40 million.
  • Provide team leadership & communication with jobsite Supervisor, Safety Director, Operations Director, and Divisional Coordinators of General & Earthwork construction.
  • Jointly coordinate labor, equipment, & subcontractor resources.
  • Conduct onsite progress meetings & monthly project inner office team meetings to ensure project is well communicated and managed by all team members.
  • General oversite of jobsite safety, maintenance, and quality control.
  • Complete necessary contract review, permitting, progress payments, material & subcontract procurement, terms & conditions approval, invoicing approval, submittal review & approval of vendor documentation, RFI’s, change orders, project critical path scheduling, O & M’s, warranty, commissioning of systems, and other various documentation.
  • Maintains & monitor monthly job costing activities & performance. Recognizes areas of concern and report to Project Director.
  • Weekly approval of jobsite timecards, equipment allocation, supervisor reports, & material deliveries.
  • Affectively & professionally resolve contract discrepancies and onsite conflicts with owner, engineer, & subcontractors.
  • Continually train & mentor others within the organization.

Engineering

  • Understand and evaluate treatment waste systems and processes applying engineering principles & standards.
  • Provide generalized engineering support to customers regarding operations and processes.
  • Layout conceptual project design parameters with use of minimal information such as site plan and process flow diagram.
  • Provide oversite review of engineered systems such as process pumping & treatment equipment, process flow hydraulics, statics, expansion/contraction, pipe pressure testing, supporting systems, system stress points, & manufactures technical shop drawing review, as necessary.
  • Troubleshoot, resolve, and provide design options to owners & consulting engineers.
  • Coordinate electrical instrumentation and system control logic with appropriate I & C subcontractor.
  • Stress analysis review of components and anchoring applications.
  • Layout and calculate mechanical construction pipe & equipment installations.
  • Assist drafting department with routine activities, drafting software programs, engineering based software, and installation clash detection.
  • Assist in business development activities.
  • Attend appropriate industry conferences to maintain and acquire added information within the industry.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BAS Civil or Environmental Engineering, Process/Industrial Mechanical Engineering, or related Construction Management degree with mechanical emphasis.
  • Construction field experience or the desire to acquire as necessary to meet performance expectations.
  • Project management & general engineering experience of various size construction project within the industrial or municipal markets.
  • Experience or ability to acquire training with the following software systems or equivalents: All Microsoft products, Bluebeam, Trimble Accubid Estimating, InEight Hard Dollar Estimating, P6 Critical Path Scheduler, Viewpoint, Inventor, AutoCAD Revit 3D, Hilti Profis Anchor Engineering.
  • OSHA safety training completion or ability to acquire.
  • Valid and clean driving record.

  • Entering elevated platforms and confined space environments. Use of respirator as needed meeting OSHA requirements, corporate safety program, & personal safety.
  • Lifting necessary equipment & materials up to +/100 lbs.
  • Follow policies, guidelines, & procedures as established by the organization

Certificates & Licenses

  • OSHA 30, Confined Space, First Aid, CPR
  • Water or Waster Water Operator License (Desired but not required)
  • Dale Carnegie (Desired or willing to obtain)
  • AGC Leadership (Desired or willing to obtain)
  • AGC Project Manager Development (Desired or willing to obtain)

Work Hours

  • Monday thru Friday or as needed to satisfy internal & external customers.
  • Office locations in Marshfield, WI and Wausau, WI

  • Compensation varies $60k to $115K (Can vary widely based on applicable qualifications, skill set, & experience).
